ARTIST STATEMENT

“A work of art is never finished, only abandoned." - G.M. Forster

The accretion of shells that form "Between the Tides" were collected from the former site of the Ocean Beach freezing works. The beach at the foot of its ramparts is strewn with the detritus of past lives - shells, bricks, blocks, bones, bottles and buoys all in the process of being transformed by the sea into artifacts of prior occupation.

"Between the Tides" is the latest incarnation to be added to a series of works I have titled, appropriately enough, "Abandoned Works".
