ARTIST STATEMENT

This painting captures the inner glow of an Invercargill dining precinct, where light spills from glass-fronted hospitality venues, illuminating moments of connection. Inspired by The Langlands Hotel complex and its spirit of manakitanga, the painting explores how food, conversation, and atmosphere fuse together to create experiences larger than the sum of their parts. By softening detail and expanding light, I invite you to step beyond the literal and sense the warmth, sophistication, and vibrancy of the city. More than a depiction of place, it is a celebration of gathering; a feast - and fusion - of light and community.
