ARTIST STATEMENT
City of Layered Voices reflects my abstract impression of Invercargill — a city I hadn’t expected to call home, but which welcomed me with warmth and creativity. Originally from Ukraine, I found refuge here and discovered a vibrant community of artists, friends, and connections.
Through bold colour, rhythmic forms, and stitched textures, I explore the city’s unseen layers — its conversations, weather, and emotional landscape. The fleece ground suggests softness and care, embodying community and hope. This work is a tribute to Invercargill’s rhythm: where people, place, and creativity intertwine to form something unexpectedly beautiful.
