Howl-oween: Pups in Disguise!

Something paws-itively spooky is happening at the gallery this Halloween… and you're invited!

From Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November, Kids Create is getting a Halloween makeover! We're swapping our usual crafts for a creative adventure where YOU get to transform some adorable doggos into Halloween superstars.

CUT, COLLAGE & CREATE! Pick your favourite dog illustration from our craft station and give your paper pup a spooky Halloween makeover! Create a costume using paper collage and a variety of different craft materials, then turn your spooky little doggo into a hanging Halloween decoration to take home.

Will your dog be a Dracula, a zombie, a little witch, or something completely out of this world? The choice is yours!

TRICK OR TREAT! Swing by the front desk, say the magic words - Trick or Treat! - and score yourself some Halloween lollies!

DRESS UP & SHOW UP! Got a Halloween costume you've been wanting to wear? Bring it out over the weekend!

Thu 29 - Fri 30 October, 10am-5pm
Sat 31 October - Sun 1 November, 11am-2.30pm
Free entry. Adult Supervision Required

Kids Create | Little Me, Big Me

We're growing up with this week's Kids Create activity!

Inspired by Laura Allen's 34 Years of Age, the winning artwork from the ILT Murihiku Art Awards 2026, this week's activity is all about growing up and celebrating the years in between!

Using popsicle sticks, colourful papeCr and a variety of craft materials, create three little versions of yourself, from smallest to biggest. Give each one a fun outfit, add some accessories and top them off with party hats to celebrate all those birthdays!

Come along and create your very own Little You, Big You pieces!

📌Two chances to join us!

We’ll be running the same activity on Thursday and Sunday, so choose whichever session suits you best. No need to attend both (unless you want to!)

Thursday Session: 12 November, 3PM - 4.30PM
Sunday Session: 15 November, 11.30AM-2PM
Free entry, no bookings needed. Adult supervision required.

Kids Create | Spring Garden

Forget paintbrushes, this week we're painting with clay!

With spring in full bloom, we're bringing back one of our most popular Kids Create activities from last year: floral clay painting

Using soft, colourful clay, kids can create their own little flower garden on a round coaster! They'll explore different ways to shape flowers by hand, from rolling and flattening to forming petals, before arranging them into a colourful, textured floral masterpiece to take home.

Two chances to join us!
We’ll be running the same activity on Thursday and Sunday, so choose whichever session suits you best. No need to attend both (unless you want to!)

Kids Create | Spring: What I See

What does your perfect spring view look like? 🌻

Before the school holidays begin, bring the kids along for our final Kids Create workshop! This week, we are taking inspiration from Central Otago artist Neil Driver’s stunning painting Central Hills, currently featured in our Spring: What We Kept exhibition.

In this creative hands-on session, children will:

  • Build a frame: Construct and decorate a custom window frame using popsicle sticks.

  • Paint the landscape: Capture their ultimate spring view - whether it is the real scenery outside their bedroom window or a colorful dream destination.

  • Assemble the masterpiece: Layer their custom frame directly over their painting to create an awesome, 3D window effect, and add little curtains using fabrics!

Two chances to join us!
We’ll be running the same activity on Thursday and Sunday, so choose whichever session suits you best. No need to attend both (unless you want to!)

Thursday Session: 10 September, 3PM - 4.30PM

Kids Create | A Bowl of Creativity

Our current exhibition, 'Spring: What We Kept', is filled with a hundred works created by artists from all over New Zealand. From paintings and ceramics to glass and wooden sculptures, the exhibition is brimming with stories and a variety of techniques and skills - evidence of the creativity of artists.

For this Kids Create activity, we are taking inspiration from the entire exhibition. Come and visit 'Spring: What We Kept', get inspired, and create a one-of-a-kind artwork that you can take home and proudly show others.

Our 'canvas' for this activity is a simple paper bowl, and our 'medium' will be soft air-dry clay and your creativity.

What will you turn the bowl into? A raspberry pie? A pond sculpture with a hidden frog? We want to see what you can turn a paper bowl into!
