This Kids Create activity is all about sound, colour, and imagination — say hello to Birdsong Shakers!

In this fun, hands-on session, tamariki will decorate ready-made maracas and turn them into feathered friends — complete with wings, beaks, eyes, and flair.

This activity is inspired by The Whale Song, Humpback by Janet de Wagt, currently on display in our Hand Picked exhibition. Just like Janet’s painted instruments, these bird shakers bring nature to life through rhythm and creativity — celebrating the voices of the land in a way only tamariki can.
